Integral to the subject of 'Art' is the idea of putting the child at the centre of learning. This has always been part of our philosophy.

As a department, creativity is at the heart of the subject. This is tempered only by the need for assessment and it is the diversity of Art practice we draw upon from around the world that allows us to drive the creativity forward.

Creativity is not passive.

Pupils at KS3 are active and  engage and are encouraged to challenge their understanding and broaden their experiences.

Through paint/ clay/metals/ceramics/wood/inks/printing/textiles/photography/video/ ICT.

Creativity needs an atmosphere which is relaxed and stress free; one of concentration and discipline, where autonomy means that an individual is equipped with the skills and knowledge to  make informed decisions and thus express  ideas.

Autonomy means to take responsibility for oneself and one's own learning.

We try to encourage children to accept this.
