Year 10 Cover work
 English Mr Bardi's Class

Mrs Ellis

Tuesday - Write the summary for 'What about Dinner'. No more than 100 words. I have attached the text. Read the question carefully and summarise what it asks you. You have already written notes on this, but as I have your books, I'll refresh your memory. Think about:

Children argue/annoy each other.
Children don't like/complain about the food.
Tired and tense/argumentative after work/school.
Sitting together stirs up tensions.
Opportunity for telling children off.
Daphne resents the fact her cooking is not appreciated.
Write your summary on lined paper.

Wednesday - Complete the Grammar Exercises - Present tenses 1-3. Don't worry if you find it difficult as we will be doing work as a class on it. The exercises are attached. Again, write the answers in full sentences on lined paper.

Mr Dickens

Read pages 54 and 55 (and power point IGCSE 26) and make notes on the ‘constituents of air’ and two methods that could be used to find, by experiment, the percentage of oxygen in air.

I was going to demonstrate the combustion of a few elements in oxygen, which in a couple of cases is quite spectacular, and sometimes results in the loss of eyebrows. However, due to inclement weather this will have to be postponed and instead you can read about, and make notes on, metal and non-metal oxides. In particular their acid-base character and equations for the combustion of common metallic and non-metallic elements, you will find all this on pages 56 to 58 and in power point IGCSE 28.

21/11/2013 - Thursday

Year 10 group B

This lesson should have been making and investigating oxygen and carbon dioxide, but this will have to be postponed.
‘The Reactivity Series’, you met this before in year 8 and/or 9 so it should be a review of knowledge you already have. Read pages 60 and 61 of the text book, view and make notes from power point IGCSE 30.

Computer Science

The recent rain has caused a number of problems with our ICT systems. The move in the  last number of years to a completely ICT based world has shown how we can rely too much on computers.

If the electricity or telecommunications links go down then the entire system is useles - for example  Traffic Lights in Khobar

In the past we didn't have such a reliance on IT, we used  phone calls instead of emails, man power instead of  robotics.

Choose an aspect of modern life such as Business, Factories, Banking or Communication and write how we functioned before ICT.

Remember to inclide references to any internet research , headers/footers etc.

Look at how computerised warning systems work in the event of disasters. Flood systems, earthquakes etc.

Focus on sensors - What types do they use

Sensors - Input > Process > Output as feedback

How does feedback work in this instance?

Make notes in your books.
