Art

Integral to the subject of 'Art' is the idea of putting the child at the centre of learning. This has always been part of our philosophy.

As a department, creativity is at the heart of the subject. This is tempered only by the need for assessment and it is the diversity of Art practice we draw upon from around the world that allows us to drive the creativity forward.

History

Key Stage 3

Young Bisakian Historians follow a programme of study that takes them through several prominent civilizations of world as we know it. After all, Livy once said "The study of history is the best medicine for a sick mind; for in history you have a record of the infinite variety of human experience plainly set out for all to see; and in that record you can find yourself and your country both examples and warnings; fine things to take as models, base things rotten through and through, to avoid."

Business Studies

ECONOMICS (IGCSE)

The Department is following the IGCSE course from Edexcel. The course is designed to give students a sound understanding of business and the ability to use knowledge, skills and understanding appropriately in the context of international markets and the United Kingdom.

Mathematics

Introduction

The Mathematics department is comprised of a strong and motivated team of five full time staff. Colleagues share ideas and resources on a regular basis to ensure that pupils feel challenged, inspired and motivated to reach their potential. The success of the department is evident through the very good results achieved by the pupils. We have high expectations and they rise to the challenge.

Computer Science

Information and Communication Technology is a constantly evolving subject and is in ever-increasing demand in the job market.  There are now few careers that do not involve at least a basic level of ICT know how.  At BISAK we aim to expose our students to a very broad range of ICT software and hardware.  Our students also develop problem solving skills through problem analysis, flowcharts and programming.

Modern Foreign Languages

Key Stage 3:

 

Pupils entering Year 7 study French, Spanish and Arabic, regardless of their ability, and they will continue to study their chosen language throughout Key Stage 3. The aim of the language courses is to allow the pupils to develop an understanding of how language works and to lay solid grammatical and lexical foundations so that they are able to express themselves clearly and adventurously. The topics covered include family, home, town, healthy lifestyles, hobbies and interests and holidays.

Design & Technology

KeyStage 3

Design and Technology is all about solving problems through designing and making. At BISAK we try to utilise our students’ natural curiosity, encouraging them to develop an understanding of how things work and a critical awareness of the man-made world.

Music

Introduction

Secondary Music in BISAK promotes quality, creativity, understanding of music and performance skills. Secondary bands and choir often perform in and outside school premises for varied audiences giving performers a full musical experience.

Drama

The aim in Drama is to develop students into creative, supportive and independent individuals. Through this medium students show that they have an ability; to work as an assemble on cooperative ventures and have the ability to achieve goals. That is, they work autonomously on projects which require them to focus on deadlines, work on performances which require them work within groups and to feed back on research undertaken all which require the discipline of working.

Physical Education

In September 2009 the structure of the modified GCSE Physical Education will be adopted for first examination in the summer of 2011.

The English Team at BISAK is a dynamic team of four highly committed specialists and four learning support staff, all passionate about the subject. Specialists share a common purpose – using our love for literature to enthuse and motivate those whom we teach.

Science

The Department seeks to give students access to and knowledge of science by developing an understanding of scientific facts and methods. This includes using evidence produced from experiments to explain observations. We believe a sound knowledge of science and its methods is essential for all in the modern world so that informed choices can be made about contemporary issues such as climate change, nuclear energy, stem cell research, animal testing and so on.

Geography

Key Stage 3

Geography is a global subject in every sense of the word, involving an increased awareness of the environmental, social, political and cultural issues that are relevant to everyday life in globally interdependent world.
