Mr Dickens

As you are aware we were not in school for the scheduled date of the test on all work covered so far – except organic. This was no one’s fault, not even the Romans, so it will happen the next time we meet. Make sure you are prepared.

The ‘knock on’ effect is that we are now a little behind schedule so we need to speed up a bit and compress the next three lessons into two. In order to do this you should read pages 101 to 107 of the text book. Fortunately most of this was covered at GCSE so it is mostly revision. You should also read and complete the questions on the ‘Homologous Series’ sheet and go through the power point about naming and representing organic molecules (u1-54).

21/11/2013 - Thursday

‘Isomerism’, you have already had an introduction to this idea in the organic chemistry section of the IGCSE course so at this stage you just need to refresh your understanding of basic isomerism. These ideas will be extended later on to include the alkenes. Read pages 106 and 107 of the text book, print and read the ‘isomerism notes’.
The next section is crude oil and the alkanes – again a fair bit of revision but we introduce cycloalkanes. Read pages 108 to 111 and make appropriate notes, I will check these when we are back in school.
