In the words of Shakespeare “all the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players” – this couldn’t have been more evident in our annual Shakespeare Off By Heart competition. Over the course of the term all Senior pupils were asked to memorise a Shakespearean monologue before reciting the bard’s famous words before their peers. As the rounds progressed our aspiring thespians were whittled down to nine finalists, who all delivered an incredibly impressive performance in the MH Hall. Pupils performed speeches from all across Shakespeare’s cannon of works ranging from A Midsummer Night’s Dream to The Merchant of Venice. The standard of performances was outstanding, and the panel of judges found it very difficult to pick out a winner. A big congratulations to Rebecca V (9B) who was the overall winner. Great job to the English department for organising this literary event.
